Alexandra Finch Joins Missionary Society
By Braxton Bragg Underwood July 29, 1935
Alexandra Finch, moving here from Finch’s Landing, has come to live in Maycomb for some time. She is staying with her brother, Atticus Finch, in order to keep an eye on his children while he is busy working on his upcoming case.
Although she is new in town, Mrs. Finch has already gained a lot of popularity. Everybody welcomed her with open arms by baking her cakes, stopping by for chats, or just to say hello. “Oh I have Alexandra over for coffee in the afternoons. She is such an independent and strong minded woman,” says her neighbor, Miss Rachel. After getting settled into Maycomb, Alexandra joined the Missionary Society. This society consists of several ladies of Maycomb who gather just to informally converse about the latest news and gossip. They also work towards spreading ideas with a more feminist opinion. Alexandra has been a great suplement to the society and transformed it for the better. “The main reason I joined the Missionary Society was to get to know the ladies of Maycomb better,” says Alexandra, “but the group has slowly evolved into something more than that. Now that we know each other so well, we like to focus more around discussing current events and such matters. I also like to use the group to set an example for all the young ladies, including my niece Jean Louise, on how to be a real lady and the responsibility that comes with it.” All ladies of Maycomb are welcome to join the Missionary Circle with no costs. Meetings are held weekly at the Finch household. See Alexandra Finch for further information. Mrs. Finch also became the Secretary of the Maycomb Amanuensis Club. Alexandra has just arrived in Maycomb county, but it certainly seems like she had always lived here. She is a great addition to Maycomb county. |
