Judge Taylor's Home Is Broken Into
By: Braxton Bragg Underwood October 25, 1935
Judge Taylor's house was broken into last night. While his wife, Mrs. Taylor, was at church, the judge stayed home. He is not a Sunday night churchgoer. During the hour while his wife is gone, Judge Taylor likes to stay in his study and read the works of Bob Taylor. Though they have the same surname, the judge is not related to this idol of his. While he was lost in the world of reading, Mr. Taylor heard a scratching noise coming from the back of his house. "Well that darn noise just had to interrupt me reading the brilliant words of Bob Taylor. At first, I thought it was Ann Taylor, that fat dog of mine, but then I saw she wasn't even in the room. So naturally, I went to the back of my house to let Ann out but she wasn't there either. Instead, I saw the screen door swinging open," says Judge Taylor. He also claims to have seen a shadow in the corner of his house, but that was all that was seen of the visitor. He then went back to the study and continued reading.
According to Mrs. Taylor, "As soon as I got home, I checked in on my husband and saw him soundly reading as if nothing had ever even happened. However, this time, he had a shotgun lying across his lap." Many people speculate that Bob Ewell attempted to rob Judge Taylor, but it is still not clear who committed the crime. |
