One Down; Many More to Go
By: Bob Ewell August 28, 1935
That stupid, good-for-nothing black boy, Tom Robinson, was finally convicted! But of course he was convicted! He stood no chance against me, a powerful white man. He is trash compared to me and he will never forget it.
As for now, I would expect to be hailed as a hero. I have ridden the society of yet another African American. However, there are many more of them left and I just cannot stand them. The very sight of them makes me cringe! And imagine having to see your daughter get raped by that filthy black boy, Tom Robinson! Pity me and pray for me! That stupid boy even had the guts to say that he felt sorry for my Mayella! Although I had been sent back to where I live, I will continue to do good and help the town of Maycomb. The trial of Tom Robinson is nothing too big. It was just a small event, that will lead to many more bigger events to come. The trial can simply be thought of, ‘one down, and many more to go.’ Haha. I’d also like to write about the trial and what happened. Atticus Finch has stated that I had lied to you all and says that the dirty black boy did not rape my daughter. Although we all know that it is Atticus who is lying, I will not let this slip by. His denial of Tom Robinson raping my daughter will not go by unnoticed by me. The entire community with enough sense as I have knows that Tom Robinson beat and raped my poor daughter and Atticus Finch was defending that boy without any thoughts, facts, or reasons. With that in mind, Atticus has it coming for him. I will get him, even if I spend the rest of my life tryin' to. And Mr. Finch, if you are readin’ this, don’t you forget my words and you better be scared. |
