Trial Letters
Dear The Maycomb Tribune:
I think the Tom Robinson case was outrageous. When Tom was working for me on the cotton field, I never had a speck of trouble from him. Not a speck. Tom was clearly an innocent man, but the jury voted otherwise. Of course, this is nothing new, but it still angers me just as much. Thomas Jefferson said that all men are created equal and I believe that although they are not equal in the sense that they are born with different traits, they should all be treated equally, as human beings.

Dear the Maycomb Tribune:
When I was sitting on my porch on the night of the trial, I thought to myself that Atticus Finch couldn’t win. Atticus being named by Judge Taylor to defend Tom Robinson was no accident. Maxwell Green should’ve taken the case, but Atticus did. Judge Taylor indeed had his reasons for naming him. Still sitting on my porch, I thought to myself, we are making a step. Although it’s a baby-step, it’s still a step.

Dear The Maycomb Tribune:
I very much agree with the points made in the article by the editorial board about Tom Robinson. I think that we should stand by our Constitution that all men are created equal. We all should get along with each other because that is the best way to solve problems. When there are struggles in the outside world, shouldn’t the people of Maycomb have inner struggles as well? But one question I have to you is, why did you voice these opinions after Tom Robinson was killed? If you had published this article before, there could have been more people on his side.
